Bohdan Jarmołowicz


Composer, arranger and conductor, born November 2, 1951 in Olsztyn. He gratuated from National Academy of Music in Poznan, where he studied conducting with Witold Krzemieński and composition with Florian Dabrowski.

During studies he took part in reactivation of jazz movement in Wielkopolska. The result of this activity was a group Workshop, which won several awards at festivals as Jazz nad Odrą (including First Prize for composition and second prize in the instrumental category). Jarmołowicz won third prize of the International Festival of Jazz Pianists in Kalisz and special prize at the Festival of the Złota Tarka (Golden Grate) in Warsaw.

Maestro Jarmołowicz collaborated with the Orchestra of Polish Radio and Television in Poznan, with whom he has made many radio and CD recordings, including his own compositions and arrangements. He also composed and recorded music for theater (including Television Theater), and films. In 1980 he was a finalist of Young Conductors Competition in Besançon (France).

In the 80s and 90s he appeared in Western Europe as a conductor and general music director of the US-German production of famous musicals (among other things Cabaret, West Side Story). He performed and recorded with many orchestras, including Das Sinfonie Orchester Berlin.

As a conductor, Jarmołowicz has made numerous recordings. In 1998 he was nominated for the prestigious Grammy Award for album of a rarely performed compositions for saxophone and chamber orchestra, realized with orchestra Sinfonia Baltica (from Slupsk) and American saxophonist Greg Banaszak.

He has a number of premieres of works by Polish composers on his account, including Krzesimir Debski, Matthew Kuźnik Norbert, Piotr Moss.

He has collaborated with most of the famous Polish soloists and foreign artists, among others Katherine Dejonghe, Greg Banaszakiem, Vadim Brodsky, Richard Galliano, Philippe Giusiano, Cyprien Katsaris, Kevin Kenner, Gennady Woskresienskim, Grigorij Zhyslin.

He has received numerous public and art awards, among them: Radio Personality of the Year - a distinction granted by the management and the journalists of Radio Gdańsk and Pomeranian Artistic Award twice.

Continuously since 1990 he conducts the inaugural concerts of Poland Polish Piano Festival, held every year in Slupsk. Besides, Jarmołowicz is the director of the State Chamber Orchestra and Theater in Slupsk since 1992, transformed in the Polish Philharmonic Sinfonia Baltica in 2005.
